In a resolution adopted unanimously by its Board of Directors, the
Knights of Columbus has endorsed the nomination of federal circuit judge Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme
Court. The action, taken during the board's quarterly meeting in New York City, called upon "members of the
United States Senate to vote in a timely manner to confirm" him as associate justice.
Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson said federal appeals court Judge Samuel Alito
is "a truly excellent choice" for the U. S. Supreme Court. President Bush nominated Alito Oct. 31 to replace
retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.
Supreme Knight Carl A.
Anderson hailed President Bush's decision to veto stem-cell
research legislation being considered by the U.S. House of
Representatives, calling the president's position "a
principled stand in defense of human life."
Supreme Knight Carl A.
Anderson says the Knights of Columbus, in solidarity with
U.S. bishops, will continue fight to ensure that marriage,
defined as the union of a man and a woman, is protected in
law.
The Knights of Columbus
oppose efforts to deny otherwise highly qualified Catholics
the opportunity to serve on the federal bench because of
beliefs consistent with their Catholic faith.
